To have a cool outfit, you don't have to follow everyone else and focus on what they're wearing...yet saying that, you can be inspired to create your own. Usually the coolest outfits or when people say "Wow she looks cool", is when the outfit is completely out there and different to everyone else.
It's good to be inspired by other people's style as you can see what's trending at the moment and learn how to wear it. The only thing you should be careful of and remember, is to still create your own style that's unique to you. If it's hipster, urban, chilled, funky or moody... whatever suits you is what you should be aiming for.
To complete or really make your outfit stand out you need accessories to make it pop. Even the simplest accessories (such as bags, scarves, hats, jewellery etc.) can make such a big improvement to your outfit. Accessories can be used to add the finishing touches to your outfit and make it work a whole lot better. Just say you're wearing normal jeans with a white top; adding some bracelets, a puffy black scarf, some cool black boots and maybe even a french hat can really make the outfit more interesting and exciting.
The problem is, what accessories do you wear? What goes with what? Is the scarf too big? Can anyone see the bracelets? Do my shoes match? These are all questions you might find asking yourself...luckily there's a solution.
Boots are one of the best shoes to wear when you're really stuck for ideas. They can be worn casually and formally, depending on the style. In Europe, black boots were the most popular, being worn all over the streets with different outfits everyday. A cool style that has been trending a lot lately are 'Isabel Marant' bobby sneaker-ankle boots, (last photo on the right). These come in many colours (black, brown, white etc.) and include a small wedge inside the shoe. They were a really popular style of boot worn and were selling fast in the shops.
The best thing about boots is that you can wear it with shorts, jeans, a skirt or a dress. There are so many different styles out there that allow you to create your own look! This accessory really makes a difference to your outfit.
Trainers are amazing when you want to pull off a cool, 'chill' look with your outfit. In Europe especially, Adidas' 'Stan Smiths' (Third photo across) were trending a lot and everywhere you walked, you'd see people wearing them. Another Adidas shoe that was also popular were their 'Superstars' (First photo). These were less popular than Stan Smiths, but were still frequently spotted on the street. Nike were also a popular choice of trainers . They weren't the bright colourful style though, it was either the black ones (new version) or the old style of Nike (Second photo across) which looked pretty similar to the famous Stan Smiths. Another trend with trainers was that some were quite sparkly and looked as if they were covered in diamond or sequence (Last set of photos). This was pretty trendy and quite hipster as it still had that casual feel to it. Reeboks are also making a comeback....keep an eye out!
All styles of trainers (Adidas, Nike, Reebok) work really well and accomplish that 'chill' style that's trending at the moment.
Having the right bag is essential to an amazing outfit. There are many styles of bags you can have which will pull off different looks.
The first is, fringed bags (first set of photos). These are really cool for chilled, hipster looks and can work with different outfits depending on the colour. For e.g. black fringed bags go well with most things as it is in between and can be both formal and casual.
Another type of bag are backpacks (second set of photos). These are awesome to wear when going places with friends or family and you need to look cool, but also carry a lot of things. The trendiest style of backpack are the ones with the folds at the top and have a cord that you pull to close it. They are usually made of leather and go with any outfit! Another style of backpack is by 'FJALLRAVEN KANKEN' (third set of photos). These were worn HEAPS in Copenhagen and were basically the only style of backpack worn.
The last type of bag is the small shoulder bags that are used when going out. The most desirable (and expensive!) brand of this is Chanel (especially the old style of Chanel which is starting to be worn a lot more lately). This type of bag is mostly formal and the main colour that it's sold in is black. The over the shoulder bags can be sold in other colours such as brown, silver and white, but this is then giving off a more casual look.
Bags really finish off the outfit and are both convenient and fashionable for any type of occasion.
At the start of the blog I mentioned something called a 'French hat'. These aren't the flat beret hats that the artists wear in France, these are hard, felt-like hats with a small brim...based on the design. These are super cool and give your outfit a 'french' touch. They can give off a hipster, boho look (depending on what you wear with it) and can also represent a 'beachy' style if you wear it along with other cool accessories.
Scarves are super cool to wear and look especially good with skinny or boyfriend ripped jeans. They are pretty trendy in winter if you wear the ones that are large and woollen, and coloured in plain colours such as black or grey. Patterned ones are also pretty trendy (first 2 photos) if you wear them with the right outfit. They can make your outfit crowded if you wear patterned clothing with it as well. That's why you usually wear it over plain coloured or simple tops or jackets. Scarves that are plain coloured but also quite bulky and thick are very trendy at the moment, especially in countries that are experiencing winter (third photo across). Scarves are the perfect accessory when you feel like your outfit needs a bit more or looks a bit empty.
Accessories are a main part of your outfit. They finish it off and help your outfit stand out that little bit extra.
When we were travelling around Europe it was almost winter. There were lots of jackets, coats and cardigans worn on the street.
Long, baggy-like coats that were either plain or eclectic were one of the main trends in both Paris and Copenhagen. They were either worn over the shoulders, with a large or baggy scarf or with long pants and trainers or boots. This style is trending a lot at the moment and you will notice most people wearing it all around Europe, especially with the weather.
Middle-length leather jackets or khaki jackets were worn a lot as well, especially with skinny or ripped jeans.
Cape-like throw-overs and fluffy vests were also pretty popular. These jackets portrayed a cool, urban style. The designs of the throw-overs included white with colourful patterns (blue, red etc.) and also neutral colours such as grey and beige.
Long cardigans with a sort of rugged texture were worn all over the streets, especially in Copenhagen. They were usually worn with jeans or tights and go down to just above the knees. Trainers or boots with a small heel/wedge are usually worn with it and the texture of the fabric is quite thick. It can be worn casually and with friends or family on weekends (e.g trainers, jeans, backpacks, casual top), or it could be worn formally depending on what you wear underneath and what accessories you have with it (e.g. high heels, dresses, leather pants, jewellery, handbags).
