What is fashion? Fashion is trend and style and it changes seasonally depending on what is on trend (for e.g. colour, lace, shape, length, jeans etc). What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of teen fashion for girls? Short shorts? Midriffs? Teenage style seems to be only based on what is trending at the moment. Unfortunately, it's hard sometimes to have your own sense of style and not care what others think of you.
Even though some of the stereotypes for teen fashion can be true, there are lots of girls and boys out there who ignore it and try something new...something that suits them.
There's always that question of what is my style? What suits me?
Sometimes you just have to be brave enough to explore, try new things and ignore what the stereotypes say about you.
What should Teens be seen as?
Teens are the main people who have the most freedom in what they can wear. You're at that age when you can fit into new things that aren't completely childish, but not completely grown up. You could have a boho-like country style and go crazy with the miss-matched patterns and loose throw over clothing, or you could have a sporty style with high-top trainers and leggings. Your style depends on what you want to wear and what you feel comfortable wearing.
How to know what's on trend
Trend, in fashion, is something that's popular at the moment and is what everyone is wearing. Sometimes trend can be based on colour. Black could be what everyone's wearing and what everyone is basing their style around. It can also be based on length. The length of skirts could be really high or it could long like a maxi dress. It all depends on what's on trend.
Usually you can start to see what everyone is wearing and what is getting sold at the shops. Denim jackets (like in the picture) and Khaki jackets were quite popular and stayed around for a while. The reason why they stayed around for a while was because they were able to be worn over multiple seasons.
That's another point...seasons. Usually the trend changes based on the season. Large fluffy vests could be popular in winter, but once summer arrives it's beachy lace throw overs.
Even though there is the constant worry and concern on the fact that you have to 'stay on trend', sometimes having your own style can work just as well. You could end up starting your own trends. Really, teen fashion should be everything. From lace to denim and from cool to quirky. Don't worry about what others say or what they will think of you because in the end, if you like how you look then you look great.
